South Port is pleased to announce the Tuurama Trust as the recipients of the 20ft shipping container giveaway.
The Tuurama Trust is involved in organising community cultural events such as Matariki celebrations, and the Rangatahi Zone which provides the opportunity for young people across Murihiku to take part in a series of fun and exciting activities designed to delight, challenge, inspire, feed and uplift them in a safe, supportive and supervised environment. One hugely popular event during this is the 'smash it room' activity which sees thousands of rangatahi letting off steam with a softball bat, smashing glass bottles, in a safely controlled environment.
“The container giveaway was designed to assist a school or community group to provide practical support, and encouragement for the work they do in the community. The enthusiasm and events from Tuurama Trust, made them ideal recipients,” said Jamie May, Commercial Manager, South Port.
The ‘Think Inside The Box’ container giveaway originated from a South Port staff members suggestion, South Port then coordinated with MSC NZ to supply a container, and Osborn Engineering for delivery to the successful recipient, highlighting a shared commitment to supporting the local community.
“MSC has proudly served Bluff directly since 2008, and we are pleased this container can now support Tuurama Trust and the important work they do in the Southland community,” said Len Bentley, Managing Director, MSC NZ.
"Tuurama Trust and the Rangatahi Zone team are incredibly grateful to receive this container. It’s a massive new asset for Rangatahi Zone, which means we now have a secure space to store our equipment throughout the year, and it will also be transformed into our very popular activity, the 'smash it room',” said Jay Coote, Trustee, Tuurama Trust.
“Financially this helps us save on storage costs and container hire. We want to extend a huge thank you to MSC and to South Port for their continued support. They have stood right beside us since we started in 2022, and this contribution makes a real difference,” Jay said.
