South Port welcomes new business from commercial clients. The port has ample berthage and storage facilities available, plus a further 7ha of portland available for further port development or industrial establishment.

Bluff is also a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage area and the New Zealand subantarctic islands, with cruises departing throughout the summer season. Additionally, tourist traffic through cruises to Stewart Island, Milford, and Fiordland often pass through Bluff.
